To Me, Are You Very Dear

Dear Shruti, I may not be a perfect cousin but I want to show you how dear you are to me, in the form of this poem; my first poem for you in three months:

To me, are you very dear

So much, have you had to bear

Rarely, do you have things easy

Forever, do I want to see you happy

To me, a lot do you mean

Every conversation with you makes me beam!

To me, are you very dear

With you around, nothing to fear

Extremely valuable, your counsel

A sweet girl

Though scolding me often

Nevertheless, life with you is always fun!!

To me, are you very dear

Honoured to be your cousin brother

For you, ready to do anything

Even if war comes calling

I owe you so much

As a cousin, you’re a prize catch!!

To me, are you very dear

Sometimes, can I be a real bother

Not giving enough space

Yes, off late I’ve made amends

However, once in a while

The same bad habits return

At times, I’ve even been self-centred

But now, I’m really chastened

And giving my all

To become a better person

I assure you I won’t disappoint you

Because, as a brother, I truly love you!!

To me, are you very dear

My closest cousin sister

As discussed yesterday, let’s meet soon

And wish you a belated Happy Raksha Bandhan!!
