Since I am divorced and single for close to 3 years, I am extra motivated to write love poetry. Here goes one of many such poems:
If only were I to love you, Ms. W
Forever, would my life change
Expand significantly, would my range
Become I would, one of the happiest people in the world
Hopefully would this last, at least until I grow old
Innocent as a child, would I become
For every pain, would I easily find a soothing balm
Everyday, would I be humming a tune to myself
Never again, would I be aloof!
If only were I to love you, Ms. W
For you, would I sing the best Harris Jayaraj melodies
Hopefully, would that lead you towards finding your inner peace
Also, would I pick the most revolutionary Thanthai Periyar quotes
And then maybe would that end up giving you goosebumps
Watch a romcom together, we could
Laugh and cry together, we would
Your English, could I make fun of
My Tamil, you SHOULD make fun of
Bringing snakes into everything, would I love
Bringing politics into everything, could you love
Nothing is there, which we would do together not
And always would we be right on the dot!!
If only were I to love you, Ms. W
I would be on your side, no matter what
Unless were I off my hat
All day, could I go on listening to you
As if life started and ended with you
Laugh at every joke of yours, I could
Criticise the government every minute, I would
Write a poem about you twice a week, why not?
Join you in a protest march, would I love to
Were I to land up in jail, so what?
After all, it’s all about we two!!
If only were I to love you, Ms. W
Were you to ask me to do anything, I would do it
Unless were it against my principles
Or on my character, would it mean a blot
Were I to miss any of your calls
Apologise I would, for sure
Say you were under extreme stress
On me, you could CERTAINLY take out your anger
Or could you go silent for hours and hours
After all, I am NOT a fair-weather friend
With you would I be, right till the end!!
If only were I to love you, Ms. W
A fantastic life, could we have together
“And they lived happily ever after”
Ah, what a beautiful and sentimental fairy tale cliché
Well, could our love story carve out a niche
However, I just realised it’s all been a dream
Nevertheless, have I absolutely no shame
Because, this is what love poetry is all about
Oh, if only were I to love you, Ms. W
It would be a feeling impossible to beat
On this note, let me finally end this looong poem
Hope it has made you all beam!!
