Second Open Letter To My Dear Sister

DISCLAIMER: Most names have been changed for the sake of online privacy.

Dear Sarah, this is my second open letter to you. You will be happy to know that this will be much shorter; but of course, no less interesting than the first! As always, I reiterate that you are extremely dear to me and your value to my life is utterly immeasurable and intangible. I am very proud of what you have achieved in life and are still achieving. If the Queen meets you and your organisation and praises what you have been doing; then it means you have almost become a celebrity! However, it is not your being or becoming a celebrity that matters to me – what matters is the value of your work; especially your contributions towards the upliftment of women and downtrodden communities. Take a bow, Sarah!!

Your latest visit last year was very memorable, especially the fun we had with your bestie Patricia; she is really a dear. Apart from being a Potterhead, Patricia is also an exceptionally warm and friendly person who can get along very well with anyone. I must say you are really lucky to have a friend like her in your life. Please do be there for her always, she has been through a lot in her life and needs the support of a cool, level-headed person like you. I also hope you visit us again, maybe towards the end of 2025. It would be the perfect way to end the year; not only for us but for yourself as well!!

I am really happy that you have had a lot of fun in UK as well as other European countries like Portugal and Netherlands. At one point, you and our cousin Samuel were almost inseparable; during his course at London!! The photos and videos you have shared of your tours to various places in and outside UK are highly fascinating, to say the least; and I have stored every single one of them in my laptop – so I have a proud collection!! I am also mighty chuffed that you got to meet a gem of an actress in Dushara Vijayan; who did such a fabulous job in Bheemji Pa Ranjith’s “Sarpatta Parambarai” as well as the Superstar Rajinikanth starrer “Vettaiyan”. Keep it up, sis!! Your social circle is expanding day by day!!

I am truly touched by the way you came on Video Call for my birthday this year, as well as getting me that gift of Portuguese poems translated to English – so sorry Sarah, I haven’t started reading it yet; but I assure you I will start very soon.  I am also concerned about you; given the present economic situation in UK and the general anti-immigrant sentiments prevailing throughout US and Western Europe. I know you can manage almost everything fine on your own, but it may be time you take a call on your stay at UK; unless of course you wish to stay in your present job for a few more years. However, I am not sure this is a course of action you might wish to take, given you are now eligible to become a solicitor; though the opportunities to become one are very less.

It is good that you are touring Europe as much as possible; necessary to make hay of sunshine while it lasts!! Also, it is nice to note that you are still very much career-focussed and not even thinking about marriage; though of course I would be happy if you were to fall in love with someone and that person reciprocates!! I’ve forever admired your maturity and mental toughness. I also want to tell you that you are welcome to share with me ANYTHING and EVERYTHING; not boasting but I am a good listener, keep secrets well and can be a shoulder to cry on. You are welcome to call me on Whatsapp any time; only thing is due to the time difference it would help if you were to ping me before calling. However, even If I miss the call, I will always call back at a convenient time for you. You know, I am even ready to do anything for you – anything that is of course legal AND ethical!! You might be six years younger, but age is just a number. You mean the world to me, Sarah. I will just end my monologue with this beautiful quote: “A sister is a dearest friend, a closest enemy, and an angel at the time of need.” ―Debasish Mridha.
