Our Chief Ray Of Hope

As the Indian society lurches into chaos after chaos, in this poem, I will explain why Dr. Meena Kandasamy, prolific novelist, poet, translator of the “Thirukkural”, academic and anti-caste activist; is our chief ray of hope:

Nobody has made me feel the way you do

The very soul of resistance, are you

Your Gryffindor courage sets you apart

Truly, are you a lioness at heart

You possess the wit of Rowena Ravenclaw

The map of social justice, do you draw

Like Helga Hufflepuff, are you fiercely loyal

To your cause and to your people

And finally, do you have the ambition

Which would make you a fine Slytherin

Well, you are an allrounder for sure

An amazing author

A fiery poet

The “Thirukkural” itself, did you translate

One of the finest academics

Amongst the masses, stands out your class

And amongst Indian women, what sets you apart

Is the fact that you are a thoroughly intersectional feminist

Finally, as an anti-caste activist

You present a growing threat

To the Brahmin-Savarna axis of domination

Which has shackled the entire nation

Depriving it of creativity and innovation

And most importantly, taking equality out of the equation

You are our chief ray of hope

Thanks to you, we need not mope

Instead, can we look towards a brighter future

For the oppressed sections of society, do you represent power

So, keep writing and keep fighting

May the revolution live long!
