You Are The Light That Makes Me Shine

In this poem, I will show you why Dr. Meena Kandasamy (eminent author, poet, translator, academic and anti-caste activist) is my chief guiding light:

It is your light that provides me shine

Whenever I feel alone

You are like no other

Inside you, is a raging fire

Which can destroy an entire forest in minutes

You have built a fortress

Which stands tall, against all forms of injustice

From you, is there so much to learn

Your books are a massive boon

To the entire Indian society

And I consider it my duty

To read as many of them as possible

Seriously, do you make us believe

That the impossible can be made possible

Thanks to you, do I try my best to stay positive

Even when Fate seems to be against me

My mind, do you help set free

So many battles, have you had to fight

External as well as internal

But you have managed to stay cool

And more importantly, show your might

No wonder, are you the light that makes me shine

And helps me overcome my pain
