An Unofficial Mother, You Are

Poem dedicated to Mrs. Jayalakshmi Krishnan, whom I fondly call “Jaya Aunty”, my mother’s best friend and almost like a mother to me. Here is the content:

An unofficial mother, you are

For me, so much do you care

Always, have you encouraged me

And tried to extract the best out of me

Love and compassion run in your very blood

Even if you are not in the mood!

An unofficial mother, you are

You and my mother are almost like sisters

It is proof that friendship does not depend on age

Rarely, have I seen you in a rage

You have a heart as large as the blue whale

And yet, most of the time do you remain cool!!

An unofficial mother, you are

Forever there for me, when it really matters

Whenever has there been a crisis

Rushed to my side, have you

Hence, greatly do I love you

And every time I feel something is amiss

Without hesitation, do I come to you!!

An unofficial mother, you are

For the poor and the underprivileged, so much do you care

A lot of groundbreaking work have you done, for cancer treatment

Of kindness and benevolence, are you the very embodiment!!

An unofficial mother, you are

My best friend in the world, is your lovely daughter

In fact, are we all family

A very very beautiful family

Keep rocking, keep inspiring and do take care

May the Almighty bless you with all that you deeply desire!!
