I am an ophidiophile, and this is my first poem about snakes. Here is the content:
We are serpents
And no, we are not malevolent
Yes, some of us can kill humans
But we are not the demons
That we are portrayed as
In fiction, cinema, television
Oh boy, can I go on and on!
We are serpents
Yes, some of us do get violent
But only when provoked
Some of us are not to be feared
Because they are not gifted with venom
Some of us possess extremely potent venom
However, they are as docile as a caterpillar
In fact, you can sit back in your chair
And relax, while they slither around
Some of us make sounds
Loud enough to wake the dead!!
Unless you lose your head
I am sure you will get the hint
And stay away from these tyrants!!
We are serpents
And we are blessed with tons of talent
Because, we can hear not
Yet, we fail not
When it cometh to catching our prey!
Come what may
We can defend ourselves
And never are we powerless!!
Some of us possess heat sensors
Hence, can they sense danger
Even if they see not!!
Some of us are dangerous not
Even if they do possess venom
In fact, even can a dog bite cause more harm
Than a strike by one of these beauties!!
Now that, done are we with niceties
Let me offer you a piece of advice
Respect us and do be wise
To leave us alone
Then, you need not moan
Because, we avoid humans, as far as possible
So, do not go for the impossible
And try to tame us
Because, then you will miss the bus
When it cometh to your own safety
In other words, be not naughty!!
