Welcome Back Home Dear Sis

Poem dedicated to my sister Shreeja, who will be returning home from London next month. Here is the content:

I don’t celebrate Raksha Bandhan

Neither do you

However, the bond we have

Is, according to me, a matter of celebration

You have cared for me

Right from Day One

At that time, I didn’t realise it

Because I was a spoilt brat

And obsessed with myself

We had a lot of fights

And it pains me to say this

But I was often physical

However, you understood me all the same

Something for which I will be eternally grateful

And as we grew older

The bond between us deepened

Of course, it was not as though we spoke a lot

But you were always there for me

When it truly mattered

For instance, my painful divorce

I don’t know what I’d have done

Had it not been for your expertise as a lawyer

Combined with your sisterly affection towards me

I owe you big time

Anyway, we’ve had our share of fun as well

Particularly in recent times

You took us around London

Like an expert tour guide

I shall never forget our visit to Hampstead Heath

As well as the walk on the famous Millennium Bridge

Not to mention, the sheer variety of food we ate!!

Unfortunately, as far as cricket was concerned

Team India disappointed us big time

Nevertheless, we did have fun at the Oval

Especially when it came to drinking beer

And I am looking forward to the next month

Since you will be returning home

Yes, I’ve missed you big time

And now that we’ll be getting more time to spend with each other

We might as well make the most of it

Welcome back home, Dear Sis
