Message To My Best Friend On Friendship Day

Poem dedicated to Tamil, my BFF and one of my family friends. Here is the content:

Today is Friendship Day

And I have quite a few friends

However, it is your friendship

Which I treasure the most

Nine years ago, we met as colleagues

You didn’t know much about me

However, it was obvious

That you liked whatever you saw in me

And hence asked me to be your friend

Of course, I was happy to oblige

Since you were innocent and sweet

Not to mention, rather simple and humble

And when it came to work

You were extremely driven and dedicated

Nevertheless, that didn’t stop you

From having a lot of fun

And within a mere two months

We became best friends

I started dropping you at your hostel after work

On a regular basis

You always shared your lunch

And advised me from time to time

On various matters, both work and personal

Whenever there was a crisis

You were always at my side

Soon, I started picking you up in the mornings as well

And Kalyani Patti packed lunch for you

On a daily basis

Unfortunately though, there was some office politics

Because of which you suffered a lot

However, after you changed jobs

We became closer than ever

You were not merely my best friend

But also an unofficial sister

My grandparents treated you like a granddaughter

Especially during the devastating Chennai Floods

When you and your family took refuge at my place

Of course, your family also was like an extension of my family

Your mother in particular, doted on me

This was something that I particularly noticed

When my mother and I had the great pleasure

Of attending your marriage

Your Amma got along nicely with mine

And became a good friend of Kalyani Patti as well

Moreover, your husband and I gelled very well

And the best thing about him

Was the fact that he was completely okay

With our relationship continuing to grow and blossom

Even after your marriage

This is not something that we see often

In a country like India

When you had to go through that extremely painful caesarean delivery

My grandparents were at your side throughout

And to hold your son on his first two birthdays

Is something for which I will forever be grateful to God

Of course, like all close friends

We had our fights as well

However, after every fight

Our relationship only became stronger

You saved me from a trainwreck of a marriage

Even after I initially refused to listen to you

Because I was blinded by love

Nevertheless, you were determined to stand up for me

And, along with Shreeja, made me open my eyes

And see my wife for what she really was i.e., a cheat

This is exactly the difference

Between a good friend and a best friend

Recently, you saved me from yet another crisis

And brought me closer to my family

My father in particular

Anyway, enough of my monologue

And wish you a very Happy Friendship Day again
