So, you think I am boring?
Well, I don’t deny it
After all, I am socially awkward
I can’t make small talk to save my life
Whenever there is a party
I am the last one to get an invite
And even that usually happens
Because someone drops out at the eleventh hour
Cracking jokes isn’t my forte either
In fact, there are times
When I don’t even get a joke
So, you think I am boring?
Well, I don’t deny it
In a group of friends
I am usually the third wheel
Whose most noteworthy task
Is to refill everyone’s glasses
Mind you, not with beer
But with plain water
So, you think I am boring?
Well, I don’t deny it
But there is such a thing as a topic
And when the topic is Harry Potter
Or trains
Or music
Or crime fiction
Or cricket
Or tennis
Or the game “Choices: Stories You Play”
That’s when I come into my own
And though I am hardly an expert
In initiating conversations
I can certainly hold one
And If I am lucky
You may even my social anxiety evaporating
Faster than you can say “autism”
So, you think I am boring?
Well, I don’t deny it
But I also don’t deny
That I have other qualities
Which compensate for the boredom
That you’ll have to endure
For instance, I am the last person
To betray anyone’s trust
Tell me, what would you prefer?
A fascinating traitor or a trustworthy bore?
I am also brutally honest
But can sugar-coat things when required
Though my autism may hamper my social behaviour
It certainly doesn’t affect my work
I work hard as a rule
And as to the quality of my work
That is something which even my clients can vouch for
My strongest suit though, is loyalty
Whether it be to family or close friends
I would do anything for them
Even if it means sacrificing myself
Though I do hope and pray
That it doesn’t have to come to that
So, you think I am boring?
Well, I don’t deny it
But I also have two last words for you
So what?
