You Inspire Me, Severus

Poem dedicated to Professor Severus Snape, my favourite Harry Potter character apart from Ronald Bilius Weasley (Note: Last two lines belong completely to JK Rowling, his creator):

You inspire me, Severus

To achieve many things

Because, you were a great wizard

Of course, very rarely kind

However, your love was so powerful

It made you excel

In almost everything you did

Your own life, you sacrificed

To bring down the Dark Lord!

You inspire me, Severus

Yes, you did many bad things

But many more good things

That’s all that matters

You were an exceptional Potioneer

A prodigious spell caster

Hell, you even invented many spells

Managed to glide without brooms

And fooled the world’s best Legilimens

Well, you didn’t define success

Rather, success defined you

Because, success WAS you!!

You inspire me, Severus

Your mental strength, humungous

You always loved Lily

But you lost Lily

First, as a friend

Then, she was killed

But you never stopped loving her

Your love was so pure

That you put yourself in danger

Again and again

Mental AND physical

Truly, an incredible soul!!

You inspire me, Severus

You didn’t have the right parents

And were a victim of school bullies

Hence, initially did you make the wrong choices

However, you switched sides

Risking your own life in the process

After Lily, there was Professor Albus Dumbledore

A mentor to kill for

Not to mention, your only true friend

Because, he trusted you

When everyone else refused to trust you

But his life, you were ultimately forced to end

Thus becoming a murderer

In the eyes of the world

It must have been sheer torture!!

You inspire me, Severus

You protected Hogwarts

In its worst phase

From a murderous gang of terrorists

One of the bravest spies

Though sorted in Slytherin

You were actually a lion

Among the snakes

Yes, you inspire me, Severus

“After all this time?”

“Always.”
