This article is about my first true love; let’s just call her ‘Ms. AB’. She was my MBA classmate. Very shy and sweet by nature; she also ensured that I was almost equally shy in her presence 😛 . It took only two meetings for me to develop a crush on her. I remember our second meet well; I was sitting with a group of friends in the college canteen and feeling like a third wheel. Then I saw Ms. AB sitting alone on another table; my heart told me that I would feel better if I spoke to her. Hence, I decided to pluck up the courage and sit next to Ms. AB.
Perhaps Ms. AB also needed company, or she was just too nice to everyone. Either way, she was quite friendly with me. By the way, I forgot to mention that she is a Tamilian and has lived in Chennai all her life; though she speaks only in English most of the time. Also, I did my MBA in Chennai; which is my native place. Ms. AB was also extremely rich, having done her B. Com from a very reputed college in Chennai and worked in an even more reputed pharmaceutical company. So, as you can see, she came from a very privileged background. However, I was drawn to her mainly because she was so sweet and caring; she couldn’t hurt a fly! It also helped that her English communication was excellent and she was quite intelligent.
Right from the start, I knew I never stood a serious chance with Ms. AB, but being in love with her actually made me happy and even motivated me to excel in my academics; especially in our first year – since we were from the same section and shared all classes. Every little interaction with her made me beam; including even something so basic as her wishing me on my birthday! I also sat next to her whenever I got an opportunity. Ms. AB, being reserved, didn’t speak much during classes; but her academic performance was quite decent and she even helped me with some tax calculations during one of our accounting classes.
My most memorable moment with Ms. AB was a debate we had about the SRK movie ‘Ra One’; I made it clear that I didn’t like the film much. To my surprise, she disagreed with me and what’s more; she was quite animated and seemed to have broken free from her shell!! Her birthday too was unforgettable; she distributed brownies to everyone and I was (still am) a brownie lover!! Unfortunately, during our second year, we didn’t get many opportunities to interact; since we were in completely different streams. Nevertheless, even something so routine as saying ‘Hi’ to her made my day. Ultimately, at the end of the course; we wished each other well and parted on a happy note; though I was obviously sad to bid goodbye to her.
I had a few phone calls with Ms. AB during the course of my first job; the calls were short but she was quite polite. She soon got engaged. One day, out of the blue, I confessed my feelings to her; she revealed that she had always known and was sorry she didn’t feel the same for me, but hoped I would find a suitable girl!! A really remarkable woman, I must say. Now she seems to have become a mother!! I wish her well, wherever she is. On this note, let me end the article; hope you liked it as much as I loved ‘Ms. AB’ !!!
