I Am A Much Better Human Being

Yet another poem dedicated to one of my Engineering friends; who cut me off over a comment on a Facebook photo of hers. Here is the content:

I was a loyal friend to you

Throughout our college days

After that, we lost touch a bit

That, of course, is something that is bound to happen

When people go their own separate ways

And make new friends in the process

Nevertheless, I have always cared for you

And I believed you cared for me as well

How wrong I was!!

True friends never break apart

Or, even if they happen to do so

Ultimately, they manage to patch things up

And carry on, as if nothing happened

But you were never a true friend

You often thew a lot of tantrums over insignificant matters

Such as my marking you absent in the college register

And even, not supporting your precious Mumbai Indians!!

All those were red flags

That I ought to have recognised

But failed to do so

Thanks to my autism

When you eventually cut me off

It came as a major shock to me

However, after finally coming to terms with the reality

I apologised to you n number of times

Again, for an insignificant matter

Not because I did something wrong

But because your friendship mattered so much to me

That I was willing to make a compromise

However, you ignored me for days and days

And weeks and weeks

Eventually, you did deign to respond

But in an extremely arrogant matter

Well, I understand you got offended by my comment

Even if it was not truly offensive

But you never bothered to consider the hurt I went through

While trying to repair our friendship

Which ultimately turned out to be in vain

Anyway, I don’t need your friendship any longer

Nor do you deserve my friendship

But I want to let you know

That I am a much better human being

Than you can ever be

I may not be loaded with riches

Like you probably are

But I at least have a heart

And I deeply care about my family

As well as my cousins and relatives

Not to mention, my friends

Mind you, true friends

Not fake ones such as yourself

And whatever I’ve achieved so far in life

Has come through sheer hard work

Which you are not capable of doing

Even if you happen to be working in an MNC

Also, I can do a lot of things

Which you wouldn’t be able to do

Even in your wildest dreams

Of course, I am not going to list them all here

Because it would be a waste of time

But you must know this

I hope and pray that our paths never cross again

For the rest of our lives

However, if by chance a situation arises

Wherein we are forced to meet

I will walk right past you

Without batting an eyelid

Just one final thing

Try to be a good human being

Even if it costs you your life
