Poem dedicated to an ex-colleague of mine in Mumbai who cheated me out of a huge sum of money in the name of a sister. Here is the content:
It was the biggest mistake of my life
To develop a friendship with you
Yes, you were my colleague
Hence, I had to interact with you
But I should have kept my distance
Of course, it wasn’t entirely my fault
You had your methods
When it came to charming people
Especially fools like me
Who were gullible enough
To fall for your sob stories
In my defence, though; I am autistic
And I thought you truly understood me
While the reality was as different
As India is, from Australia
You pretended to care for me like a sister
And took advantage of me
In the most brutal manner
While you kept calling me “brother”
I was actually your bank account
Jesus tells us to love even our enemies
However, in my not-so-humble opinion
A friend who cheats you
Is far, far worse; than an enemy
Moreover, you have a friend
Who makes excuses for you
Of course, your nature is such
That you are even capable of ditching her
When you need her no longer
Your filthy mouth is so full of lies
That it’s a wonder your nose hasn’t grown
The way it usually does for Pinocchio
Anyway, coming to the matter at hand
The amount of money you owe me
Is even taller than Mount Everest!!
I don’t know whether you are genuinely ill
As your friend claims
Or simply absconding, like the coward you are
Nevertheless, you need to cough up
I don’t care how you do it
Because, though I am usually very patient
You have pushed me beyond all limits of endurance
Thus, unless I soon see some action from your side
I will be left with no choice
But to set the cops on your tail
You may be thinking
That I am too powerless to punish you
However, be warned
I am usually very sweet and caring
But when it comes to something like betrayal of trust
I can be very, very dangerous
Yes, it was indeed the biggest mistake of my life
To trust you in the first place
However, as the famous cliché goes
“What goes around comes around”
